Hugh Greenwood Fellowship
Contents
sa国际传媒 is pleased to offer the Hugh Greenwood Fellowship (monetary value 拢3,000), to overseas senior Paediatric Surgical trainees or Paediatric Surgeons, who are within two years of consultancy.
The Fellowship
This post will be available to senior trainees/surgeons who wish to travel to the UK to have exposure to paediatric surgery in a tertiary centre. 聽The purpose is to observe paediatric surgical practice but also paediatric surgical training in the workplace. 聽The capacity is exclusively that of an observer. 聽Hence, there is no requirement of GMC registration. 聽The successful candidate would still have to undergo health checks (including complying with vaccination requirements), CRB checks (Criminal Record Bureau) and any other checks as required by the sponsoring trust.
Selection Criteria
The fellow will be pre-selected by their home specialty associations and recommended to the International Affairs Committee who will ultimately advise the sa国际传媒 Executive on the preferred fellow on the basis of the CV application and strength of local sponsorship.
Applications should be made to the Specialty Association of their own country/region as follows:
ASEAN Society of Paediatric Surgery (for South East Asian Countries)
FAPSS (for candidates from SAARC countries)
National/Regional Paediatric Surgical Associations for Middle East Countries
(for candidates from Africa)
The application should be forwarded to the relevant specialty association as mentioned above by 31st October each year. 聽The specialty association will forward a reommendation to the International Affairs Committee of sa国际传媒 by 30th November each year, following a local selection process. 聽The IAC will make a final recommendation by 31st December each year and the decision would be communicated to the successful candidates after confirmation from the sa国际传媒 Executive Committee in January.
Applications should include:
- Short (2 page) Curriculum Vitae in English
- 200 word document outlining the reasons why this fellowship would be helpful.
The International Affairs Committee WILL NOT ACCEPT any direct applications for fellowship without endorsement of the applicant’s regional or national paediatric surgical confederation/association.
Selection of venue
The venue (s) will be for the successful applicant to suggest, organise and confirm. Members of IAC will be happy to facilitate.
Duration of appointment
The tenure of the appointment will typically be around 2 or 3 months
Support in the UK
Each Greenwood Fellow will be assigned a mentor (local sponsor) who can help with visa applications and support the candidate during their stay in the UK.
Funding
The sum of 拢3000 will be used for accommodation and on site expenses whilst in the UK. The mentor ( local sponsor ) will be asked to disburse this money since banking arrangements have been difficult to establish for a fund whose recipient changes annually. Accommodation may be pre-booked and pre-paid from this sum. The residual will be given to the Fellow in cash via their mentor (Local sponsor).
Host Institution
The mentor (local sponsor) will be also expected to arrange for low cost local accommodation for the duration of the trip. This arrangement therefore excludes any employment contract and does not come into conflict with work permit regulations.
Requirement
At the end of the fellowship a report is expected of the travelling fellow and that is presented at the international forum during the sa国际传媒 annual congress
